90 4Runner v-6/MT transfer case removal by itself

Hello and sorry if this seems like a double post but I can't seem to get a solid answer. I am removing the transfer case from the above mentioned toyota and want to know if I can remove it by itself, without the transmission or not? I have it on a drive on/4 post lift. It looks like I could just separate it from the adapter and just lower it down. Am I missing something? Can this be done? Thank you all very much. And yes, this is my first Toyota.
