Hi guys,

I think the onset of the electrical gremlins is setting in on the '85 4runner. I thought I'd see if this sounds familiar to anyone and see if anyone's had success with remedies.

Thought I'd go out and mess around with the truck today and on a whim, I thought I'd just make sure it still ran before I ordered a new radiator for it.

It started right up, ran fine, but this is the first time the "EFI" light didn't come on before cranking it. Also, the "Charge" light stays on solid, before cranking it and while it's running. It's the only dash light that seems to be working.

I've had some alternator trouble in the past, and had the "Charge" and Brake" lights came on together, but this is the first time the "Charge" light has come on on its own.

Also, the turn signals aren't working. They worked fine before.

The following all work: hazard lights, parking lights, headlights, brake lights, heater blower.

For the past few months, the light that indicates the tailgate is unlocked has been on solid (although the tailgate lock is down). That light didn't come on today either.

The battery and connections seem fine. It cranks well and starts right up.

Edit...today I fiddled around with connectors and fuses, tried it again and it's working the way it should. Can't really explain it. Thanks for the reply.

 

Well what does your Meter read at the battery??

Without real numbers no way to know just what the charging system is doing.

It starts and runs good so far!!

Then maybe the brake light in the dash no longer works

Sounds like you have some work ahead.
