I've got a 1990 4Runner i'm trying to track down some electrical issues on.

The blinkers aren't working. They seem to work with the hazard switch. Following thru logically I checked the fuse in the drivers side kick panel. The fuse was ok (had light corrosion in the pins). I went ahead and replaced it. Checking the voltage (ignition key on) I get no voltage between the socket and ground, with the key on. All other fuses in the kick panel holder show voltage when tested.

From my understanding that circuit as well as several others (gauges, etc) should all come on with the key in the "on" position.

Has anyone seen this before? any ideas? sounds like my next move will be removing the kick panel fuse box and taking it apart to check the connection to that fuse socket?

Trying to remove the fuse panel does anyone have tips on finding the top bolt? It seems to be burried behind a whole bundle of wires.

I would try cleaning it some more before taking it all apart.

unless you see visible damage behind the fuse block or signs of water running down behind the fuse block.

 

Check the plugs to the steering column, Power goes through the ignition switch before the turn fuse, But IGN 1 also feeds wipers, ECU-IG, Ignition and gauges at the same time.


Start in the column and then follow it up into the dash and behind the fuse box.

 

thought i should update this to help someone who may search and find this thread later.

it ended up being several things. there was some corrosion in the fuse socket, the fuse itself was actually blown, but you couldnt tell by looking, and there was a lot of corrosion in the connectors and bulb sockets. in one of the rears i actually had a wire pulled out of the connector itself, which i fixed by jumping that wire around the connector
