22R Oil Pan Literally Stuck On! Help Me!
I was leaking a bit out of my oil pan gasket so i decided i might as well swap it out for a new gasket. I have done this before i had my engine rebuilt so i assumed it would be no issue. After i got all of the bolts out, i cannot seem to get the oil pan to dislodge from the bottom of the engine. Of course i have already removed the screws and drained my oil, so i would like to get the damn thing off instead of just putting the screws back in again without actually fixing anything. i have to take my truck on a 150 or so mile drive in 2 days, so i need togged this wrapped up today. i have no idea on how to get the damn thing off?! It supports my weight (180lb) jerking on it from all directions. i might try to pry it off, but i don't want to bend the oil pan. Somebody please help me!

get a razor blade in between there and cut through on the block side, it'll come right off then. I have had this issue several times due to the PO simply gluing the damn pan on in-lieu of buying the $4 gasket...

Got it off. took me damn near an hour. Started with a knife, then a razor, then the screw driver. had to work it 90% of the way around before my weight could break it loose. It will all be worth it if the damn thing stops leaking on me. i need to know if i am burning oil, or just leaving it on the roadways. Figured i would try my best to stop the leaks first.
I used a cork gasket. are there higher quality ones out there? Decided against the RTV for simplicitys sake.
Nothing was in the bottom of my pan, so that is good. i made sure to give it a good cleaning before i reinstalled it.
On another note; i took off the oil pan and changed the filter, but only was able to add 4 quarts before it was full on the dip stick. I took it for a test run and it seemed to be running on the high side according to the stock oil pressure gauge (which i never really trust). After about 5 minutes of driving it would finally level back out where it should be at stop signs.
Any idea on why it didn't want much oil, and why it would read high after i dropped the pan and everything?

4 quarts is normal.
Your pressure should always be higher when you put in new oil and/or the engine isn't fully warmed up. Oil gets thinner over time and is thicker when cold.
Try stirring syrup, then water. You get the idea.
Slightly off-topic but interesting read on motor oil: http://www.xs11.com/xs11-info/tech-t...otor-oils.html
