Something stuck in my fuel line

I was installing my Weber yesterday and had to swap the fuel line between my Holley Fuel Pressure regulator and my carb fuel inlet because the old line was too short. Then i found this. Must have come from the FPR right? Do i need a new reg? WTF is going on here, this should NOT have been in my fuel line.

I have a hard time believing that the screw could have come from the carb, since that would mean that it had to move against the flow of fuel and backwards down the line. Makes more sense that the regulator let something go. I have searched the exterior of the reg, no holes, no leaks or anything. Must have come from the inside since I have not opened the system since i installed it about 2 years ago. Could explain why my 32/36 was not getting nearly enough fuel.
