Stupid little coolant hoses!

Just reringed and installed rebuilt head on my 85's 22RE for trip to California (live in Utard now) and as we were getting ready to leave, the coolant hose from the auxiliary air valve to throttle body started to leak!
Nobody here in Hooterville (Cedar City) has 5/16 heater/coolant hose so, I bought some fuel hose, clamps and coolant and took a chance that it wouldn't be a roadside fix.
Got to California ok, had breakfast with the GF's son and blew the hose pulling into the motel parking lot!
So, I replaced the hose with some fuel line for the time being (working great) but, am leery (sp?) about the comparability of ethylene glycol and fuel hose.
Went to Toyota dealer to inquire about the availability of those hoses....you can still get them special order at about $22 each!
There's no Toyota dealer in Hooterville so, that wasn't going to happen even if I was willing to pay that!
What the hell, went to visit my old, favorite auto parts store and lo and behold, they had Gates 5/16 "heater" hose and it was flexible enough to make the crazy bends Toyota molds into their (priced like gold!) hoses (bought 5' for $7.50!)......I miss California : (
That'll be my project to replace those hoses when the weather warms up....it was 7* when we got home last night!
Maybe this can help somebody that's facing the same problem.
Hans
