Okay so I've been burning oil since I put the truck on the road about 7000 miles ago at the rate of 1.25 qts per 1000 miles. I have excessive crankcase pressure but I also have great compression in the 180's on all cylinders.

I've replaced the PCV, grommet, associated valve cover and PCV hoses with OEM and no change. I'm thinking the PCV baffle might be clogged on the valve cover.

Obviously the right way to fix it is to take the valve cover off and clean it out. I just don't have the time right now!!! In about 2-3 weeks I will do that and run a leak-down test, and adjust my valve lash but in the mean time I'm wondering if I can cheat.

Would running some compressed air into the PCV valve port to try and un-clog it be a bad idea? Of course I would leave the oil cap and breather hose off so the air had somewhere to go.

What do you think? Worth a shot or recipe for disaster? Thanks!

You should be able to pull the PCV and shake it and see if it rattles. Not the best check but it is some sort of a check.

My experience with the PCV is if it has been in for a long time, the rubber grommet is rock hard and is brittle and will break if you try to pull it out. I have pulled the cover and grab the PCV valve with a pair of vice grips and stand on the cover to pull the valve out. Usually it will crack the grommet and cause a big leak. Now I replace both the grommet and valve on a normal tune up. The grommet doesn't get so brittle doing it that way.

In the mean time I would just see if the hose from the valve to the plenum is clear. Other wise I would just wait until I could pull the cover and replace the parts all at once unless you can get the PCV valve out without breaking the grommet.

Flushing it out with compressed air, I cant really see it causing any damage like you are talking about.
