3VZE running hot, idling high after timing belt change

Hi, long time lurker, first time poster here.

I changed the timing belt and water pump on my 95 4Runner this weekend and now it is running hot and idling at about 1500. I've checked and double checked the timing belt, making sure to follow the FSM specs as I went and everything is lined up to the t.

I'm hoping that the high temps are due to air trapped somewhere or maybe my not swapping out the thermostat. And, maybe the high idle is related to it running hot? It doesn't seem to idle high until it gets hot.

I'm changing the thermostat and re-burping the radiator tonight, so hopefully that will do it.

Any other ideas or experiences would be appreciated though.

You're probably on the right track with burping whatever remaining air out of the system. Check and double check for vacuum leaks, the tbelt is a decent size job and it's easy to forget a small (or large) vacuum connection somewhere along the line.

Alright, well, I guess I was right. I changed the thermostat, filled it back up with coolant and let it idle for about 30 minutes with the radiator cap off and all is well. This seems to have fixed the high idling too.

Make sure you check your base ignition timing after a job like that too.
