Australia, diesels, shipping

Just a long-shot:

anyone here have real world knowledge of shipping heavy crap from Australia or South America to North America?

I'll be working in both Oz and S. America over the next eight months. Don't want to miss out on a chance to score turbo diesel stuff.

My wife is in international freight logistics. I will ask her but she will ask size weight packaging and destination and port of origin. Doesn't have to be precise but pick a port of destination. (Where you want it shipped to) port or state at least. Also what countries you might be shipping from. And will it be packaged in any way shape or form. Also dimensions and weight of the shipped items. That's not including customs info just the basics. As soon as you get me some basics I can ask her.
Hope this helps

Hey there, fishguy.

Ports would likely be Melbourne (or Antofagasta) to San Diego. I would put weight at a 1500lbs/700kg to be safe. I'm honestly not sure about size...an engine and a tranny?...maybe a cubic meter?

At this point, I'm leaning toward spending that money on other things. A few years ago shipping costs had bottomed out, so I was curious. Alternatively, I was also daydreaming about picking up and old bj60 and shipping that instead.

I would think engine and tranny would need to be on 2 separate pallets. Or one large one. Standards are 4x5 I think. You might be able to squeeze them side be side on one. I would then secure them like a mofo and plywood around them to protect them. I will see if she can get some aprox rates.

She recommended contacting Dependable Global Express branch in Australia. Phone number is 613-8336-1933. They are an American company with an office in Australia. A USA office number is 1-800-548-8608.

With having an Australian office they will be up to date on customs form that port to the USA.

Sorry I couldn't be more help
Hope this helps

Hey, no apologies necessary! I guess that I'll just wing it when I'm there. I'll definitely keep the phone number, as well.

Thanks!
