If you have a K&N, aFe, Volant, or any other brand of oiled air filter, you know that the cleaning solution that comes with the recharge kit does not do a particularly great job of cleaning the filter. After a little trial and error, I found that Simple Green does a great job of making the filter media look brand new, barring any mechanical damage your filter has. I still use the brand specific oil for my filter, but I get it from Amazon for less than half the price of the normal two part recharge kit. Check out my video.
