How Do I use the Plastigage on my 1991 Toyota pickup?

I am doing a top end rebuild on my Toyota 22re, and while I was doing that I was going to drop the oil pan and inspect the crank and rod clearance with a Plastigage, When Looking at the plastigage what number Should I be closes to on the scale? Thanks.

check the FSM for bearing specs. there are like 100 different thicknesses of plastigauge also, you need to use the right one or it will throw the reading off.

I was going to use the green one. What do people on here use for the 22re?

It really is only meant for new bearings and clean journals

Any oil will render the plastic gauge useless.

Get what ever color you need for the clearance you should have.

+1 different thicknesses are for different bearing clearances.

Screw it, I will just assume they are good, the truck had low miles, and I did not hear anything. I just wanted to get a visual inspection to see what the journals and bearings looked like.

I don`t think I used Plastigauge since the early eighties.

Now I use a inside and outside mike and subtract.
