$ rolled 99 tacoma 116xxx miles

Hello everyone. So a few years ago I rolled my 99 trd. It was a slow rollover all body damage. I was thinking about selling it. I had anticipated on swapping out my 22re 4cyl and putting in the 6 cyl. From what I've read it would be a big ordeal body modifications wiring etc. So that really isn't an option. How much would someone buy it for? I've had offers from partial trades and $600 cash to $3000. The truck is in my name I'd have to track down the pinkslip she hasn't been registered since 09. I'd appreciate any feedback good or bad. Thanks

Going from a 22re to a 3.4 I wouldn't call a big ordeal but it's not bolt in either. Have you completely ruled out the option of swapping engines or what?

99 Tacoma didn't have a 22RE. If 2wd and 4 cylinder, it's a 2RZ, 2.4 liter. If it's a 4wd or Prerunners, it would be 3RZ, 2.7 liter. $3-500 for the 2RZ, and I've seen the 3RZ go for $700-1000. Complete, with wiring, ECM, and all components. You may get more or less, depending on where you live. If it has a locking rear diff, there's some more part-out money for ya.

Or are you saying you have an earlier model truck with the 22RE, and you want to take out the 5VZ from the Taco and put in your earlier truck? Chilkat has mounts for that.

99 trd

Hello guys. I have an 85 4runner 4 inch procomp lift on 33x10.50x15. The motor on the 22re has 188xxx miles on it. I wanted to put the 3.4 into the 4runner when she gives out. That 4runner sure needs more power. From what I've read it seems expensive I'd have to pay someone to do the work, just a basic mechanic here.

I'm just a basic mechanic also. Only difference is you would need different motor mounts and bell housing. Great up grade plus you already have a complete engine.

I'd say less than 1k since you already have a complete running engine

I don't have a way of showing pics at this moment. It was a slow roll over the body is hammered none of the body parts are really salvageable. The bed is in ok shape I guess. The tow truck guy said it pulled just fine. Basically I rolled it down a brushy hillside a few times and crushed the cab about ten inches shorter or so.

You're not likely going to fetch much for the tacoma as-is and buyer is really only looking for engine donor at lowest cost. To me, it would make sense to do the swap while your 22re is still running. Then you can sell it along with parting out anything you can off the tacoma. You'll come out most ahead this way and won't be inconvenienced the day your 22re would have stranded you. These days the swap is so well documented and kit stuff being sold makes it simple to do. I vote do it and enjoy the new powerplant

I appreciate the advice highonpottery. I probably should get the swap done. Most likely thats what i'll do. Thanks to everyone who replied. Are there certain aftermarket parts or websites that someone can help steer me in the right direction? Maybe a mechanic who is toyota savvy in the norcal area?

Everything you need to know is on here. Find some members that have swapped in a 3.4 from a 22re. Also you can check out the 3.4 swap section.

I know if you go up to crescent city it is a Toyota paradise. Last time I was there (4 months) ago or so. I say more SASed and engine swapped Toyotas than I could count. You start getting in to the hillbilly area of any state and you find that most Toyota owners either have done something similar or at least know someone who has. I am sure humbolt county has lots of gear heads in it.
