94 22re slight missfire

Gentlemen,

I've got a 94 Pickup 22re standard shift with 328000 miles on it. Recently picked up a slight missfire at speed. So far I have replaced the plugs, wires, cap, and rotor, all with NGK brand components, but the missfire persists. Engine compression is 170-180 in all four cylinders and the plugs I pulled out looked good, no sign of fouling. Check engine light has been on for the last 150000 miles or so; I've just ignored it since the truck up until a few weeks ago ran great. Cat Converter was removed years ago.

Missfire is under light throttle from about 2000 rpm on up, but seems to smooth out about 3100 or so. Very slight, but perceptible.

Questions:

1. I bought a coil for it and was going to put it on but noticed the Ignition Control module on the other side of the bracket. I looked up the price on the ICM and was slightly appalled that it was almost $300.00. Does this sound like a ICM or coil issue to anyone here?

2. Anything else I should be looking at?

Thank you.

Kip

I would look at the distributor and pick up coil, injectors.

I have heard of a fuel filter causing that same issue on older models.

thank you, guys!

In the interest of conserving both time and funds, I will try the fuel filter first (can't wait to try and get that off...) then the distributor pickup.

The biggest problem with this truck, besides the omnipresent frame and body oxidation, is that it has only had big problems. 3 head gaskets, two timing covers, rusted out fuel module lines, stuff like that. I've never had any little annoying stuff to speak of. Heck, the A/C system still works great after 20 years/320K miles. The entire time I have owned this truck it has never once failed to get me home.

So I'm not used to dealing with "little stuff" like an odd missfire...

Thanks again,

Kip
