running rear disk brakes without proportioning valve
I purchased some brackets for 81-85 caliper and rotors for my rear axle. Just curious is anyone is running a similar setup without adding a proportioning valve .

Cost is not a factor its curiosity. I read lots of threads saying its required. Where actual build threads never mention it. No kit includes one either.
So, who has experience running disk without a p valve?

My understanding is you don't need much braking force for rear discs, so if you leave it out you will be locking up the rear easily. Unless you're carrying a lot of weight back there all the time, I don't think you're going to like your experience with disc rears and no prop valve.

i have a trail gear rear disc brake kit on my truck for about four years now and i still have my proportioning valve to install. unless i clamp brakes on i do not lock up the rear end, i have an empty bed xtra cab. with the stock valve lspv.
you can put the valve in any time.
i just got home after using my truck for three days in the snow and ice from blizzard 14, oh what fun it is to own a yota!!

Back in the olden Days when I had been driving quite a few years Trucks had no such thing as the LSPV one just learned how to brake and drove according to the weather and load of the vehicle.
Besides except for the LSPV I needed to buy new I doubt any of the ones on my fleet work.
All I can say is try your rear discs see how they work simple matter to install a valve to limit fluid to the rear.
Because this liquid brine is destroying brake and fuel lines most of my LSPV`s have been disconnected to save the double run of brake line to the front .
To a valve not working.

you do have to use a proportioning valve either stock lspv or (preferred) an adjustable aftermarket valve.
i have a wilwood valve i will be installing.
