Is this too much rust than its worth?
Hey Y'all!
Im looking for my first Yota Pickup, my ideal is between '84-'88 (pref 86..but you know...beggars n choosers). 5spd manual. Not a 4x4.
I just found this one, miles are 139000, has the inimitable 22RE. They're asking $1995. It's in Colorado, I'm in Nashville. Thinking about making the commute. Is there too much rust to consider purchasing this thing? Are there ways to combat it? I'd have an extra $1000 to invest in fixing her up. What are y'alls opinions?
Thank you!!

Its funny seeing southern people talk about rust.... That truck looks mint! Haha
The only REAL way to fix rust is to cut it out and weld in a new panel. But you can dress it up by sanding it down, bondo and paint.

I agree, Pass. There's no telling what kind of shape the frame is in. I now live in Tenn, transplanted from Ga. You can commute to Ga and find them better than that. I bought my 84 x-cab 4wd running fine, for 1500. No rust anywhere. They are out there. You just have to look. Heck, I've seen them in Fla for 1-2000 quite often. Especially 2wd.

Unless you have air assets your not telling us about .
The cost to go out and back would add another few hundred $$ to purchase a truck local.
One does what one will but if I was buying a truck I could not inspect in person. It would be South of I 20 west of the Mississippi.
The thing to remember clueless owners may miss major problems because they are clueless.
Look close to home being your a Toyota virgin I would bet you can find someone that breathes these trucks to go with you .
I would if I was closer.

I wouldnt consider it to much rust as most is surface on the front end that would sand off. The bed has some that could be fixed fairly cheaply but that is only what can be seen. Being in Nashville, you could find one closer. The two wheel drives make great trucks as well and do better on fuel mileage. Keep looking and you will find one closer. Check the frames when looking at a truck, especially on the rear and passenger side by the fuel tank area.

Not worth $1995 judging by those 2 pictures.
Bed is garbage. Why the multicolored front end? Most likely wrecked.
Probably a 22r not an re.
IMO no 2wd is worth more than $1500 but doing a quick local search on c-list they are now being priced comparably to the 4wds. People be crazy.
Save your money and get something else.
