I am new to yota tech, but not to toyotas. I am just in the beginning stages of research for my swap, I am new to 5vz's in general. Seems most people do this swap on the 3vz trucks. My question to those who have done this on a 22RE is, If you had a complete donor, do you think it would be easier to swap all the wiring over from the donor or splice?


donor truck - 1998 4runner, 5vz, manual 4x4 (I have complete truck)

recipient truck - 1992 xcab, 22RE, manual 4x4

from those who have done this swap, If you had a complete donor would you;
A) splice engine harness into recipient
B) swap every bit of wiring from head lights to tail lights, dash, steering collum etc etc into recipient

Disclamer;

I am not afraid of work, I am not afraid to fab, I am not afraid of wiring.

The goal for my project truck is
5Vz
R150 trans
dual cases
3link front
4link rear
shorten wheel base
shorten truck 3' to fit inside my trailer
cage front to rear

 

custom harness adapter... easy with the proper diagrams and time

 

You'll need the body plugs off the engine harness side of old motor and body side plugs from engine harness side from donor. That way it becomes a sort of "plug and play" adapter.

I have a 89 reg cab 5speed 4x4 with a 22re. I want to swap to a 3.4l v6. what all will i need to change? what kind of cost am i getting into?
