Thumbs up new 31" tires on my 1st gen! report and clearance changes

So I finally got some real tires under my 4Runner! I wanted the REVO's (of course), but Costco had a special going on and they couldn't get the Revos. I ended up getting the BFG A/T KO's 31X10.5X15. They are great! The power loss is very minor around town but on the highway, I can tell quite a difference. My previous tires were Michelin X Radial LT 235/75R15. In case any one of you were thinking about what kind of gains you would get going to 31's, here ya' go!
1st # = Michelin X Radial LT 235/75R15
2nd # = BFG Radial A/T KO 31X10.5 R15

Clearance:
Front skid:..................10 3/4" | 11"
Front fender to tire............ 7" | 5 3/4"
Crossmember................... 10" | 11 1/2"
Fuel tank........................ 11" | 12"
Trailer hitch............... 13 1/2" | 15"
Rear differential............ 7 1/2" | 9"
Mid frame (Breakover)....... 16" | 17 1/2"

Tire Size:
Side to side:............... 28 1/2" | 30 1/2"
Ground to top:............ 27 1/4" | 29 1/2"

I hope this helps! -Chris Rogge

Good deal. That's a good lookin' 'Runner! I know of a certain place where I can add some of those numbers!

I'm very surprised by the original height of the rear diff. 7.5"? Hmm.

Thanks Darren! That 7.5" measurement was taken from the ground to the lowest point on the diff - the drain plug guard ring. Those old tires were pretty small. Man, that was LOW compared to those other measurements on your link. Great collection of stats! -Chris

Your 4R looks cherry. Is the rear lower than the front or is that just the pic?

anyway, the new tires look rad.

Yeah, I think it may be about an inch low in the back. 1st gens also look that way because the rear fenders are cut a lot lower than the front fenders. Look at the fender height in relation to the crease in the body. I am probably going to get an AAL. By the way FirstToy, that monochromatic look you've got going on is schweet! All black and Silver! -Chris
