1991 4runner 3.0 into my 1995 pickup...need help please
Hi guys,
Newbie here and was hoping for some help. I recently bought a 91 runner with a remanufactured engine that I want to put in my 95 pickup with a blown motor. Both are 3.0 with manual transmission. I have read there are slight differences in those engine and was hoping somebody could outline them for me. I tried searching but couldn't find specifics on what I need to do. If anybody has a helpful link on a swap like that on can list the things I need to do and swap or keep from each vehicle it will be greatly appreciated!! Thanks again and I can't wait to get my pickup back on the road.
Thanks
Dom

Just what are you needing to know??
I am not sure if it would be easier to swap your engine harness in the truck to the engine being installed.
It pretty much comes down to having the engine harness and the ECU/ECM match.
The rest of the swap is just wrenching
Good time for a new clutch maybe a new radiator and hoses only you can make the call.

Hi thanks for the response.
I had heard they changed the 3.0 a little in 93. I read there are some electrical connectors, distributor, coolant lines, etc. that are different. And when doing a swap from an older 3.0 into like my 95 I would need to swap components out from my 95 and put them on the 91. Also, should the vacuum line connections into the intake be the same on both years? I noticed the 91 connections are totally different than my 95.
I am also noticing that once the 91 engine reaches operating temp it doesn't stay idling. I can start it and keep it on by pressing the gas but it sputters, smells like gas and blows black smoke and has backfired twice on me. Could this be caused by incorrect vacuum line connections. I have noticed a wiring harness that is laying across the manifold which is melted somewhat. I will need to reroute some things when I do the swap as it look like they put the 91 engine back in sloppy.
