is there a way to permanently turn off the auto LSD? i know if you hold it down for a few seconds before you put it in gear it turns it off but is there a way to turn it off permanently?

Usually limited slip differentials use a viscous coupling. If it is one of those then no you can't.

 

Newer Yotas use a "smart" LSD, basically a computer senses slipping at the wheels and applies slight brake pressure to that wheel. So no, theres no viscous couplings and or clutch packs.

But no, sorry I dont know how to turn it off other than finding the fuse and removing it, if there even is a separate fuse....

 

Probably can't pull a fuse for it. If it senses slippage it'll be with wheel speed sensors... Can't turn those off...

 

my guess would be that it's build into the ABS system since it's controlled by applying braking force. trying to disable it may also disable the ABS system all together, but I could be wrong...

 

Yes, it can be turned off permanently. The skid control ECU has an input labelled "LO", which is used to disable ATRAC/ALSD/VSC while the transfer case is set to low range.

Remove the glove box, and find "instrument panel junction box no2" behind it. It is a white-ish box with 6 plugs oriented vertically.

Find PIN 9 of the THIRD plug from the top. It should be yellow with a black trace.

Clip the wire off, and tie it (harness side, NOT plug/jb side) to negative/chassis. You should be able to find any of several WHITE wires with a black trace anywhere on that junction box.

What this will do, is feed the low range signal to the skid control ECU, which will disable ATRAC/ALSD/VSC in response.

Now I'm not certain, but doing this may cause the skid control ecu to throw an error (and therefore possibly disable ABS along with it). It might expect a 4wd signal to be sent to it along with the low range signal. If it throws an error, then you are also going to have to locate PIN 10 of the SAME plug, which should be LIGHT GREEN with a black trace, and do the same thing with that one.


Now obviously, this presupposes that you have a 4wd, otherwise you don't even HAVE a transfer case. HOWEVER, I don't think that they actually use a different skid control ECU on 2WD units, and they usually stick with the same wiring harness.... so this will probably work on a 2WD anyway. If those wires don't exist on that plug, then you will just have to find the pins on the actual skid control ECU (under the hood, passenger side, close to the firewall with the ABS pump) and do it there. Consult a wiring diagram.
