How do I change the fusible link on the eng. compt.

I have a 97ltd and my eng. check light came on today, naturally I freaked out after my baby gave me the first problem after 100k , right away I went to the dealer but as always you have to make an appoinment.....anyway after doing some reading on my chilton's manual I found the problem, the ALT 100 fuse in the engine compartment was broken, this is the fuse that has the clear plastic cover, after I sort of put it together as a temporary fix the check eng. light disappeared, I went to buy the fuse but could not take the old one out, it has a bolt at the bottom that holds it and I took the bolt out but the fuse wouldn't come out.
Does anyone know how to take this fuse out?

By the way they were going to charge me $80 bones just to do the diagnostic and who knows how much more when they found the problem, so it feels good no to get ripped off for a change.

if its anything like my taco.........theres a bolt on the other side that you have to take the fuse box apart to get to.

it wasnt hard..........just a few bolts and the box comes apart. probably took me about 10 minutes total to replace.

Just to comfort you Halza... I've had the same trouble for a while now and haven't gotten around to asking about it.

Thanks!

And thank you Dad of Avery for the answer.

Get yourself an OBD reader and diagnostics become much easier and cheaper!
Yeah I never take my truck to the dealer either.

problem solved, it's amazing what daylight can do!!! the fuse box splits in half, it has about 5 clips that hold it together, I didn't lift the whole thing up but I was able to lift it enough so I was able to see the other bolt, I put the new fuse in and that was it.
