Exclamation New 82 and i need help

I bought a 82 pickup, without the transfer case installed, and i am having trouble re-installing it. The two metal pieces that move in and out of the t-case are hitting the transmission and leaving me 1/4 inch away from bolting it up.

The truck also has a marlin l52 transmission, if that make things more complicated.

it was given to me when I bought the truck yesterday, I can't find any id #'s on it, except where there is an "8" stamped into it.

both the t-case and trans are 21 spline, my concern is the two metal rods on the t-case that are above the input shaft.

Those seem to be the things that are hitting on the transmission, and they move in and out when I shift the case.

or the bearing retainer thing, with the single philips screw.
