Regular Cab Pickup vs Xtra Cab for Prerunning

Hey YotaTech, I'm hoping to build an entry level prerunning truck, and I need some opinions. I've heard from some people that the Xtra Cab pickups have a better wheelbase for prerunning, but I currently have a single cab pickup (which I've had for years) and I want to know, would it be advisable too sell it to get an Xtra Cab, or would it be better to stick with the single cab? I mean, I always see a lot of single cab prerunners so some clarification would be great. Thanks for your time!

Btw, I'm talking the 89-95 generation of pickups, if you were wondering.

if you can find and get an ext cab that you are happy with, then do it. the extra storage space of the bigger cab and the added wheel base is a nice advantage over the slandered cab while out in the desert and trying to hit whoops at any speed. its not necessary by any means though.

Alright, thanks. There's plenty of good extended cabs in my area, so I guess I'll take a look around and find one for sale.

I would say go for the extended cab. It will ride better and be a little safer. More room for error and correction

i would go xcab for the extra space alone. more room to push seat back for leg room, less chance of smacking head on back window, but more importantly more room for an internal roll cage and behind-seat bracing for safety restraints/seat harness.

Also, depending on what all you're planning/wanting to do in the way of future mods and performance you're needing, remember that the 4wds are more robust overall -- have stronger suspension, steering, propeller shafts, 6 lug wheels, frames, fenders to accomodate larger tires, etc. You start alot ahead in parts and time by going w/ a 4wd over a 2 (and definitely get your $s worth in the $500-$1k premium you might pay for that 4wd).

And the 3vze trucks, while the engine has it's issues, is much more powerful than the 22re, and its tranny and tcases are stronger than those paired w/ 22res too... And the 3.0 3vze to 3.4 5vze is probably one of the most straight forward swaps out there and a supercharged 5vze is one of the most powerful engines that can swapped into our trucks without substantial modification of the engine bay. If wanting to go to a toyota diesel swap, the 22re is better due to close to the same engine mounts, perhaps same trannys, and engine bay setup I think. And for the Mercedes diesel swap, I don't think it matters.
