Yeah I have some pretty bad exhaust leaks and was thinking getting a new system. Well I want to know what you guys suggest me look at getting headers and exhaust. And is it a badthing to put headers on the stock motor or what thanks.

 

I had a header on a 81 model 22r with a stock long glasspack it fit the truck well

 

If you do not mind the noise, headers are fine for an increase in performance. You will have to re-adjust your carb because headers will cause a slight change in you A/F ratio (lean). Keep your exhaust size at 2.25".

 

Ok thank you what other small modifications can I do for more performance I already have a weber carb also

 

I was also woundering if there is anywhere I can get new steering parts like torque rod, intermediate shaft it's hard to find this crap

 

Good luck. Some of the first gen Toyota parts are not available on the aftermarket. Find uses or build yourself. Sometimes thats your only option.

 

Post a wanted in the classifieds on here. Lots of guys take the torque rod off.

 

If someone can please try and explain to me to tune my a/f ratio in right with my new.headers I do not want to risk screwing my.valves or Pistons carbs or not my.best thing of knowledge

 

First go online and find information on tuning your specific Weber carb. When you install a header, the mixture tends to lean out because your engine breathes better. Study the idle and enrichment systems and adjustment procedures. Follow the stated procedures. The old method is spark plug reading. Install a set of new spark plugs, make your carb adjustments, drive your vehicle around for a while then remove your spark plugs and see what color they are. If they are white-too lean, if they are dark brown / black-too rich and if they are light tan / tan-they are close to being right. If while driving you see dark exhaust-stop and lean the mixture. If you "pop" or no power-stop and enrich the mixture. This method takes time and patience. Easy way-Wideband A/F Ratio system and gauge.

On my 79 I have a peace˟˟˟˟er long tube header to 2 1/4 piping with a magnaflow muffler that exit in the stock spot.

Had a local Exhaust shop do it.

 

It is hard to say whether your MPG will improve. The type of driving, weather, etc. all effect MPG. My motor is a fully modified LC Engineering Stage 5 Pro Off-Road Stroker with twin Weber DCOE 45 carbs and I get around 19-20 MPG on the highway driving 70-75 MPH.

 

An that is one bad a++ motor how do you like it man and do you think they are great motors I just can't see saving $5000 for a motor but they sure look nice

 

I am really happy with it. The motor winds and most people say that a 22R is not a high reving motor; do not believe it. I ran the motor for awhile then installed my Nitrous system that I designed and it will light up all four 33" tires. The motor was built for HP and durability. I took it out on Pocono Raceway to dial the Nitrous system in and when I was done I drove it home 100+ miles. LC Engineering builds the best motors period!

 

Well see I have 167,000 on my 82 now and it runs pretty good but I do want to save money and purchase me a new motor just to have on standby for whenever the day comes she finally dies, but like all of us knows it might be ten years from now when that happens there like the energized bunny just goes and goes and goes, but I see other companies that build 22r motors for around $1500 to $2000 is it really worth 3 extra thousand dollars to get one from LC or what but I would really love to have one if I can talk myself in to buying one but I want to know for sure that it is going to be the best and nothing less and really all I need is just the plain Jane 22r but anyway thanks for your info

 

My truck is a show / cruise truck so I do not drive it everyday. I have street rods and customs as well. My Toys are just that-they only come out when I want to play with one of them. I am fortunate to be able to have them but if you like your truck, take your time and just enjoy. I have had my truck for 30 years and my other toys 25+ so I have invested in them over alot of years.

 

I have a new question as I'm bout to purchase my headers but I'm driving and I can barely get to 75 mph and it's all stock with 30 inch tires with a weber, but could my culprit be clogged exhaust or what it does have a bad exhaust leak but it feels like something is holding me.back when I'm trying to accelerate,and if I eliminate my cat and just go straight to a magnaflo muffler will that be to loud. But my compression is good no oil leaks motor seems to be ok but when I get to fourth gear it just don't accelerate at all any info would be great

 

It could be your differential gearing. Whenever you add larger tires you change your final drive ratios. Toyota installed gears that match the performance of their engines and they did it real close so any changes in tire sizes will effect performance. I run 4:88 gears and 31" or 33" tires and acceleration is better with the 31" tires from a standing start but the 33" tires are better at highway speed.

 

If you don't mind me.ask what does or did it cost you to do the gearing upgrade

 

Sorry, I did mine 28+ years ago so I have no idea what it would cost today. Maybe someone else on this WEB site can answer that question for you.
