22RE cuts out during acceleration.

I just put a rebuilt 22RE in a 90 4x4 pickup. It started right up and sounds great as long as its only idling. When I push the accelerator, the engine begins to rev up (as it should) but immediately cuts out for a split second, like someone just turned off the ignition. It only happens momentarily so the engine doesn't actually shut off, but does it continuously over and over, as long as I have my foot on the accelerator. It cuts out about every two seconds, so the engine doesn't have time to rev up very high. The timing of the cut out is not erratic, it is exactly every second and a half, or about there. (makes me think electrical problem)
When the engine is cold it will idle much higher (as it should) This is not affected. The engine will rev high when the choke is on and it sounds great. It's only when you step on the accelerator pedal or do it manually at the intake, that it cuts out. Any help would be appreciated. I did not have this problem before I put in the new engine. Vacuum lines are all correct, timing is correct, no CEL. New fuel filter. Don't have a code reader.

thanks.

A paper clip makes a great code reader. The wire is just what I used to show how to jump the terminals. I dont have any suggestions to your revving problem but am intrested in what it is. Could still jump the terminals and see if there are any codes. CEL isnt always going to stay on.

How to get Check Engine Codes. I just put this up for others. Applies to 87 and up. 86 and older is the bottom picture.

The Diagnostic port for the 85-86 is on the Drivers side inner fender and is nothing the same as the 87 and up. Here is T1 and E1 jumped. The codes and engine flashes are the same as the rest of the trucks on the dash.

Unplug your TPS and run it again. See if it does the same thing.

Wow, you guys were right. I tried the jumper and got a 41 code which is the TPS. I was going to disconnect it and what do you know. I didn't tighten it down when I was putting everything back together. I tightened it up and it works great. Thanks to Sparks and Terry.

No problem, glad you let us know what it was. You will need to do the same thing to set your timing correctly as well.
