4Runner rear bumper assembly interchange

I'm replacing the rusted out rear bumper assembly on my 2000 SR5 with sport package & wide fender flares.

My salvage guy has a 1997 SR5, with sport package and wide flares. Without having unbolted the '97 bumper it looks identical to the one I'm replacing. However, their parts system says the two do not match, even though of course they are both 3rd gen.

Does anybody know if these two bumpers are directly interchangeable?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

They should be interchangeable, the reason your computer or whatever says they aren't is because the bumper style changed in 98 to make them more effective. Basically they just protruded more. But the mount stayed the same throughout the generation. So according to that, I'd say yes, it will fit.
