I know I googled that a while back and came up with an unbelievably accurate schematic that helped a ton.

just google around a bit on it and you should come up with something.

On the Kenwood unit:
Yellow- memory
Red- power
Black- ground
The rest should be two green, two purple, two white and two grey. There will be a solid color of each and the other matching wire will have either a white or black stripe. These wires are the pos and neg for each individual speaker.

Hope that helps a bit

I don't know how tight $ is but you can get these adaptors for about NZ$15. I imagine they would be cheaper still in the US. One end plugs in the head unit, one end to the truck and then together. Quick and easy plus you can put the original back in/upgrade easier

ok so I started to install my kenwood deck
I'm doing the cut and solder method as I figure I will be the last owner of this ride

anyway the wire colours from the site link don't seem to work for me I can't get sound to come out right

here is few pictures of the truck side
I'm thinking I may have chosen the wrong area to splice into which is right behind the plug from factory deck . Should I have gone past that to before the silver box
I can get sound but it cuts out as I turn it up and to get it it not the wires sugested to use

anymore pointers/ help

see if this helps you...

http://www.the12volt.com/installbay/...tail/2023.html

also, it looks like you spliced after the head unit and before the factory amp.

check the wires and colors after the amp... one plug will have power, ground, etc and the other plug will have the 8 speaker wires.

[edit] the second plug might not have all eight speaker wires... maybe just 4??? i don't remember!

good luck.

joel

There is a wiring harness you can get specifically for your model (90-95 4runner). All you have to do is get some butt connectors and connect the wires out of the new deck to the wires on the harness and plug the end of the harness into the factory plug coming out of the 4runner. The colours of the wires you have to connect should all be the same (like blue with blue, blue with stripe to blue with stripe) Hope this helps!

what is wrong with trying to tie in before the factory amp
other than needing to figure out wire colours

Sorry, you're good.

I was rushing to get out the door.

Remove the factory head unit, remove the factory amp and then work with what's left

How's your progress?

Joel

you do need to bypass the amp... but I would highly advise either buying an adapter harness if you can, or making a custom one (using a male plug from a donor vehicle if possible) and then splicing from there.

splicing into my factory harness would be my last resort, its always nice to wire things up so you wouldnt ever have a problem going back to stock if you wanted

ok so here is what I did
removed factory deck and amp for front speakers (I did want to use it)
then I wired into the factory harness this will produce little or no sound from the rear speakers due to the built in amps at the speakers .
on my deck it had a 12v power out for amp trigger and antena I used this to trigger the pink with i think blue stripe. then I get real sound from the rear speakers.

all this will do till I get enough cash together for power wire and speaker wire to put in my 10's and amps
