I bought a 4" bracket lift used. It did not have drop brackets for the sway bar. Then it also came with linkage bars (not sure what to call them) that extend from the transmission crossmember to the rear of the rear lower control arm braket. The truck had rancho shocks on it so I'm guessing it was a rough country lift, even though I have not seen the linkage bars on one except the pro comps.

Just wondering first what these are called? what there purpose is? and if its a big deal if I remove the front sway bar?

 

Look at the company websites that sell bracket lifts and read their install instructions.

So far pro comp calls them compression struts, and others just call it a strut brace. Other than stiffening up the truck and making it look badass I see no real function. Would these help in essentially replacing the function of a sway bar enough that I could remove the swaybar without significant changes to overall drivability on the road.

 

I removed my sway bar long ago.....loooooong ago.....never noticed it wasn't there. However, depending on the laws in your county/state you may HAVE to have it installed.

 

thankfully not an issue in Idaho. Now I may be moving if I can switch to active duty from the reserve. Well see but for now I will pull it and maybe fab up some brackets just in case.

 

Don't worry about the sway bar as long as you have (decent) shocks
