Clutch Noise???

Hello all. Im new here with a new to me 94 Toy 4x4 4cyl std cab truck. Im a Honda technician but not 100% familiar wiht the Toyota at this point. I have a few questions.

While driving in 4 gear 2500-3000 RPM I get a loud ticking noise like its in the valve train. It really only happens wen I have the throttle just off idle, but press any further to accelerate and it goes away. I installed a new head gasket and had the head/vale work done by a competient machine shop that we use all the time. I have adjusted the valves hot, and was careful not to tighten the valve cover excessively. Any ideas??

I also have another odd noise. Its comming from the clutch area. You can hear a tapping noise at idle and feel a thumping through the release fork on the side of the trans. The clutch acts OK and is nice and smooth. Im just trying to get any ideas as to what I should look for before I remove the transmission.
Im thinking maybe a broken clitch plate spring???

Thanks in advance.

John

Welcome to yotatech!

I don't really know the answer to your questions, but I can bump you back to the top... It is strange the number of people hearing ticking all of a sudden...

Thanks Plays_wit_toys. Ill get this thing running right sooer or later. I dont want to tear it down right yet beacuse of "bad weather" we might have. This is my first 4WD and it makes it EZ to get out of my 300ft driveway when it snows!

Anyone else got any ideas??

The ticking could be exhaust manifold gasket.

Angry

Well I found out what my problem is with this "ticking".
Its gotten worse, so I pulled it on my lift today at work and used a mechanics stethoscope and found it to be a rod knock, I think mybe #2 cylnder. The fix: Install reman engine. Im tired of screwin with this thing. $1400 + free labor (me).

Anyways heres the deal. If this thing goes through Ill have to turn in my engine as a core. I have a nice newly machined cylnder head i can put up for sale, I just need one in return to bolt on my core. It has fresh seals, guides, and machine work. I hate to loose a part, and im guessing someone around here could use a nice cylnder head for a 22RE. PM if interested.

Hoping for a new engine............
