project Cookie Monster~ 86 pickup SAS on tons

Toyota purists, ye be warned.....

Well here we go! I had been researching and reading on doing an SAS on my 86 pickup for some time now. I found a nice toyota solid axle out of an 85 runner, tore it down to go through and rebuild for my swap......

...and thats when the dark side came over me. While I was hunting for parts for my pickup, I happened across a 78 chevy K30 that was being parted out. The prices he wanted for his superlift springs and the 1 ton axles was too good to pass up, so I sold my yota solid axle and began the plunge into madness.

The plans for the truck so far are as follow:

going to be swapping in a mildly built 350, using a th350 tranny and
np205/203/208 t-case.

I am using the chevy superlift springs (10") on the toyota. I know that it is going to be tall and pretty stiff, but all I have to do here locally is mud bog....

well enough reading for now... on to some pics!!

out with the old IFS-

the donor axles-

teaser shot of approximate ride height once I get the axles hung-

and the front axle all cleaned up... new bearings, seals, and u-joints. Just got to get the hubs and brakes back on-

well thats it for the moment. I am planning on hanging the axles next week so there will be some updates soon!!

got the front finished up, also started on the 14B getting it cleaned up and checked out. I also started cutting off all the bracketry on the frame and prepping it for when the hanger kit arrives next week. I'll try and get some pics of the frame and rear end tomorrow, but for now...............

Thanks Chef! Yeah, it won't be seeing any pavement. Just for reference, in the teaser pic with the tires the hood height is 62"... The top of the front fender well was around 52-54". It's going to be massive!

well, I've got a little update for the weekend! Between working during the day, and heading to the shop to work on the yota at night I got all of the IFS brackets cut off, and got the frame ground down and cleaned up. My parts came in from Sky Off-Road on thursday, so we got to work hanging the front axle late thurs, and finished her up friday. So as of right now the Cookie Monster is sitting on 2 feet! The rear will be getting hung this weekend!

Well enough chit-chat, on with the evidence!

the frame all cleaned up and completely rid of the IFS plague

Sky's full width hanger tacked on

my buddy welding in the frame bushings

and the axle hung and tires on!! the tires are 37x13.50 Off Road RTV's(knockoff growndhogs)

and just for reference, my buddy is right at 6' tall...

now the rear is patiently waiting for its new home under the yota

3 cases or undecided on which one? if you have a ton of money do this:

"The new Offroad Design Magnum Box is our super compact 4 speed transfer case system featuring our "fat shaft" technology that truly equips you to use any of the available ranges without fear of breaking the intermediate shaft. "

it's been a little while since I've updated the build, so here's what we've been up to!

first and foremost- the Cookiemonster is back on all 4's!!

I also picked up my transmission and transfer case- th400 in front of a np203 converted from full time 4x4 to part time. Has 2-hi/low and 4-hi/low

the new heart of the Cookiemonster! I had originally settled on a fairly stock 350 with the intentions of building it up later on..... but you know what they say about good intentions. The specs on the motor- '69 4-bolt main 350 bored .040 over, 3.75" stroke with 5.7" rods on a 400 crank, factory '69 heads, .480-.500 lift comp cam, high rise performance intake, and a holley 750. Our rough estimate on the output is 4-425hp and close to 500ft/lbs of torque!!

thanks a lot man!! I never thought it would have come so far from a bone stock 4 cyl. pickup! Its still got a little ways to go from being completely finished, but the satisfaction of doing the work yourself is worth the wait to me.
