What is this wire?

I was out wheeling today in the snow haven bunch of fun, but when I got off the trail I noticed this wire hangin down from my rear diff. So I looked on my buddies 93 V6 pickup to see where the wire goes, and there was none on the top of his diff(thats where the wire is hangin from). So than i did some lookin around in my service manual, and here on the forum and couldn't figure out where the that wire goes to, or the purpose. I had never really look to see where it went before. And can't find where it is to be plugged in, also my truck is still running normally. So I am just wondering what the heck this wire is for, and where it goes(see pictures here- http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/468110/5 )

Thanks

If it run s to the top of the diff, it is probably the speed sensor for the ABS system.

Toy283 has a keen eye. The wire hooks to a speed sensor in the diff.

Drums are standard.

It is the speed sensor for the ABS. I had one in the diff that I swapped into my truck. I covered the hole with a piece of metal. I don't know where the wire connects to. Did you look under neath for the other end of a wire?

I think the diff I have came from a 4Runner with ABS. Mine is the 2nd gen. I have no idea what year it came off.

2nd gen pickups and 4runners had ABS. My 95 Hilux has it. I like it for street. I had a Taco with out ABS. I thought the brakes where all drums cause it tooks so long to stop.

That's when I started looking for another Toy with ABS.

there is a difference between gens with the trucks and 4Runners. 3rd gen pickups have the same body styling as the 2nd gen 4Runners. there are only 3 gens of pickups then they started producing the tacomas. 95 is when the tacos came out and 96 is when the 3rd gen 4Runners came out. correct me if im wrong.

Ask your dad how they stopped their cars. Drums on all four corners and no power assist. My dad would kind of chuckle and say that they had to use gearing to help stop their cars. At one time he had a '41 Chevy 2 door. It was a very heavy car compared to today's fullsize cars.

I had a 47' Chevrolet 3100 pickup and '67 Chev 1/2 pickup that had power nothing and all drums. On the morbid side, asking my Dad would be fruitless cause he's not here any more. Wish he was. Get the idea.
