My son's 85 4Runner has a split in one of the hard fuel lines. It's right where the fuel line comes out of that guard piece (or what ever it is) on the inside of the frame and goes up to the line going to the fuel filter.

I'm planning to take out the bad section and make a new line to go in there. Are these fuel lines flared just like brake lines or are they different?

 

You can cut out the bad section of fuel line and replace it with a piece of high presure rubber fuel line, or you can replace the whole hard line from the tank to the fuel filter.

The factory line does have flared ends on it, and you would probably need to reuse the original fitting because I don`t know if you could find replacements other than at a junk yard.

 

I have never had luck trying to flare old line.

If it has one bad spot no doubt just from repairing this spot it will break some other place.:wabbit2:

 

Whenever a fuel or brake line split from corrosion, you can bet there is more waiting to burst. Replace the entire hardline because you will be better off in the long run.

Is it possible to replace it with rubber fuel hose or braided rubber fuel hose? I hate bending those lines. LOL. I've seen a lot of comments about not using rubber hoses for fuel injected due to the pressure, but there is rubber hose just ahead of the split that goes to the filter and at the tank it goes from metal lines to rubber hose.

 

You can use fuel injection hose for short distances. Less than 3ft is what I have been told. Electric fuel pumps create pulses in the fuel. Rubber hose will amplify this effect. Hard line eliminates it. I had to use it on my swap, going from carb to fuel injection. I used fuel injection hose to get from tank to fuel pump and a few inches after pump. About 2-3ft total. Then I hard lined it all the way to the factory soft hose at the filter under the intake. The factory soft hose is very hard and stiff. Where the aftermarket FI hose is fairly pliable. But good to 100+ psi...
