Recently I swapped another used W56 into my truck because the rebuilt one I had on there (with 20,000 miles) crapped out. The old one has been sitting on my garage floor for a couple months and i wanted to clean it up and sell it (as broken and needing a rebuild). However, in my infinite wisdom I decided to power wash it yesterday while I was cleaning some other stuff around the yard....

Long story short, the outide looks good, but water got inside the gears. Oh, and the transmission is already separated (rear case is removed, exposing rear half of the transmission gears and transfer case is also off).

To help salvage what's left, should i let dry, then spray the gears with WD40 and bag it up to avoid rust and other bad stuff? I don't want to sell these parts if what I did is going to damage them long term.

Pretty bonehead move I know - regretting it - should have re assembled, properly sealed holes and then gone at it...sigh.

 

My guess is most people will steer away from having it rebuilt as the cost is high. But if it was to sell in a quick amount of time no damage. Might just try and drain and move it around as best as possible to cover the gears in oil. That is about all I could suggest.

 

Thanks terry that's my plan...take it apart, dry it, and coat with oil asap. I would sell to someone who wanted to rebuild as a project ideally. Anyone interested btw? I just want it gone.

Does aamco buy these to rebuild? Not looking to make a lot on this
