Specs: 1991 toyota 3.0 v6 automatic transmission. 214,000 miles on truck. 11,000 miles on complete rebuild.

Problem: when cold it idles as it should. drive across town to the store and when i come back out the truck will blubber and die.......just sometimes tho. when it does blubber and die, it will crank over and i just have to keep my foot on the gas for a minute or two. at this point if you drive away and get back on the highway it runs great!

I replaced the AFM and problem went away for a couple weeks and then it came back.

TPS is within spec.

No codes.

ANY ideas?

I don't know if this helps or not but my dad's truck (though his is a Dodge) was doing the same thing and what fixed it was replacing the distributor cap.

 

is It throwing any codes? 2 guesses, spark plugs might be fouled as they effect how the whole engine runs. And your coolant temp sensor. It reads the coolant temp and, along with the afm, contributes to how much fuel to put in at a certain rpm level.

 

one more guess, how clean is your air filter?

 

Check for cracks in the intake tube. Really flex it to make sure.
