Spring clips keep coming off of brake caliper?

I put T-100 calipers and rotors on my truck a while ago but haven't driven it much since. After I put the new tires on over the weekend the spring clip:

That goes on over the caliper keeps coming off. I checked a couple of times to see if I had it in backwards, etc...but it was installed correctly. I pulled out of the driveway and once I got up to about 20 MPH on my street I heard a "twang" and saw it tumbling down the road behind me These springs are just supposed to prevent the pads from rattling right? I'm assuming the ones I have are no good for some reason and that I need new ones, I just want to make sure that truck is safe to drive in the meantime.

You have it upside down and backwards

the way it sits it will come right out nothing is holding it in

Took me a while to figure out

I just realized I typed "rotor" and not "caliper" in the title Anyway, is the truck safe to drive without these clips? Like I said, I'm pretty sure all they do is stop the pads from rattling when you're not on the brakes-am I right about that?

It's still safe to drive, you are correct about the shims being anti rattle, they don't hold the pads in or anything.
