So my 4runner was having some fuel issues so I replaced the fuel filter. When I got it off, it was dripping dirty, muddy (hopefully) gas. The truck has zero rust problems and there is mud everywhere underneath it. That's why i think it is mud in the gas. Anyhoot, I siphoned out some of the gas and it is crystal clear. I guess i should probably just drain the tank. Any thoughts?

 

Usually if you have anything in your tank, it will settle at the bottom so you wont find it by siphoning it but if the fuel filter had not been replaced in while, it could have just been from it doing its job over the years.

Otherwise if you do have stuff in the tank, draining it probably wont help either as the sediment will just settle at the bottom, you will have to physically clean it out after dropping the tank.

 

I am guessing you got alot of rust build up in your tank. It seems to be fairly common in our area. Im just up the road from you in Anderson,Mo. Just about every project I have tied into had a bad tank. In my 88 build, there is some easy ways of getting it cleaned up.

Just found your build thread, looks like you are coming along really well on it. I get to Fayettevile occasionally and can spot a Runner from quite aways off. Maybe I will get to see it on the road soon.

 

buy extra filters, eventually it'll get to were the truck struggles to get fuel. change it before and keep going. at some point i'd drop/pull the tank and have it cleaned. or buy a fresh new one.

 

I looked in the tank and theres no rust. I replaced the pump and filter. Still no start. I'm starting to think bad gas.
