question about brake lines going to lspv

I just bought a 94 toyota and i found something that's got me confused. When I was pulling the bed i found that both brake lines running to the side of the lspv had been cut clean through. There is one line running coming from the front that attaches to the outside top part that's still good.

First question is how am i able to still stop? shouldn't it be spraying fluid out? Its been a while since i owned my 85 but aren't those the 2 lines on the side the feed and return lines? It seems to stop fine but since its not spraying fluid out am i looking at something else wrong farther up the line?

Notoriously bad valves! Most are stuck and it may just be not letting any fluid through.

That valve has to be bad because if it's the line coming from the front which supplies fluid to the valve and to the rear brakes, those two cut lines would be spraying fluid all over.

What I did to my 88 4Runner is remove the LSPV totally from the system. You can find threads on here about doing just that - using a manual proportioning valve (I got mine from Summit Racing) and using that for the rear brakes instead of the LSPV. I mounted my manual valve by the master cylinder under the hood in the rear line. I plugged the rear return line fitting (it's the left line in the "T" fitting by the right front wheel) with JB Weld. It worked like a charm. I'm gonna do it to my 94 4Runner when I put in 2" lift coils for the rear. It gets rid of the 5th bleed point for the brakes and less line to rust. My 94's LSPV is good but I had no choice for the 88 as it was leaking from one of the lines going into it. They are about 75 to 100 bucks I believe. I'd rather just do the manual valve, it's cheaper and works.

Yea that sucks. The Summit one is 39 bucks. I believe you are running on just front brakes, my man. I don't know if NAPA or Advance or like such has 'em but it beats buying one of those LSPVs. Looks like you got some brake work to do. If you need some help, send me a PM and I'll take pics for you.

I think i have a manual sitting somewhere I can use. Other then the obvious efi, front suspension, a/c, power steering stuff everything else looks like my 85. just going to have to remember everything again.
