I had planned to keep my 4runner 4ever. It has 226k miles with no major work and still going strong...However,....I have a job with a long commute and am thinking of selling it and getting a corolla. I was wondering if anyone knew how dependable they are compared to mine??? Anything I should look out for?? Thanks

 

Very dependable. Will get about double your gas mileage. 98-02 generations (and a few others, most likely newer) have issues with rings and burn more oil than your typical car. My 01 burns about 1qt/1.5k miles. Other than checking the oil at least 1-2x between changes, I just put gas in the thing and drive it like I stole it. I get 35+ mpg hwy with a lead foot. If i take it easy, closer to 40. All years are basically the same drivetrain - body style just changes.

If you can afford it, keep the 4runner for fun and get a corolla for cheap.

 

agreed. keep the 4Runner and get a cheap corolla. early 90s era are pretty dependable.

 

the older corollas dont get the credit they deserve,youll be able to find a clean one for cheap where you live without rust! especially in the ATL area classifieds.
