blowing "stop" fuse

I keep blowing my stop fuse which is the fuse that controlls the switch to disengage my transmission. What could be the cause of this. It also makes my break lights quit working. It's on my 93 4 runner sr5 v6 3.0 3vze.

Check for shorts to ground somewhere in your taillight wiring. Does it blow as soon as you hit your brake pedal?

it doesnt blow everytime I hit the break pedal but lets just say since saturday I have blown 4 fuses. I did have wiring for my tow package all frayed and screwed up so I cut them off short and taped all the ends up and hid the wiring. could that have been the problem? or do you think the switch itself is going out? but the fuse does blow when I hit the break pedal just after i start and shut it off a few times and try to put it in gear not everytime I press it. I haven't tried it since i fixed the wiring for my tow package but will know here in a little bit when I take my wife to work. Thanks for your help
