Welcome to Yotatech

Dana 30s are useless except onroad and for big wheels. You want an 82-85 sfa and high cross over steering. Please do some more research as it's been asked and answered just a few times.

Even most J*** people are smart enough not to bother using Dana 30s for anything other than onroad.

Skip on the D30 (what side is the diff on anyway) . Get a Toyota axle, or if you must a waggy 44. Plus, if you run a jeep axle, your going to be 5 lug in the front and 6 in the rear. Do you plan on carrying 2 spares?

What are you going to run for springs?

Where in VT are you, Id be happy to help out.

Good to see more people from Vermont on here!
x3 on a Toyota front axle, it will be easier and stronger. What size tires are you planning to use? The IFS is pretty capable until you can locate/afford all of the parts needed. Also the gearing might be an issue with the jeep axle.

I think a Dana 30 axle is going to be more trouble than it is worth, for one the axle isn't worth much to begin with, also, assuming that you are getting one from a Cherokee since they are the most plentiful, you are going to have to fab spring mounts as the Cherokee is buckets for coil springs, also the diff is a driver side which means that you have to change transfercases or get the rear lefty case from inchworm which isn't cheap. The gearing is different for all but 5 speed V6 (different from the 4.0) and the auto 4cyl trucks, so regearing is a must, also as rattlewagon mentioned, the bolt pattern is different. After all this work and money, you have an axle that is still weaker than the stock Toyota axle, but I guess it will be different.
