Looking at a '98 Limited 4Runner
Due to my wife destroying the drivers side of my 3.4 swapped '91 4Runner, I am in need of something to replace it.
I found a '98 Limited 4Runner 4x4 auto with 200K miles on it. It has a warped head due to over heating, a cracked windshield, a scrape and dent at the rear pass side tail lamp, slightly rusty tailgate and worn through edge on the drivers seat.
The good news is its got new tires on it, fairly new brakes and has a service history. Everything is supposed to work. This guy even has a 1/2 pint of paint made ready to fix the tailgate and damage near the light.
I can swap in my 3.4 which originally came from a '98 Limited and rebuild the overheated engine, so that problem is gone, but what about the rest? $1100 firm is the asking price or he parts it out.
What should I look for and would you go for it?
Pics will be coming tomorrow so I will post them up then if they are any good.

Hi UK.............hope you are good.
Sounds like a great deal for you I would think. You could swap your motor from your Runner in and then part that one out (I may want an extra crossover/throttle body. etc for spares), or you have lots of spare parts for the future. Sell the oldest transmission (I got $350 for my 340F). I have a set of perfect taillights for that from my donor, if that one you are talking about is damaged.
If you sell the motor parts and trans, you would pay for about 50-60% of the price of the vehicle, or pay for the cosmetic repairs.
Good Luck!!

Hey Jason, how ya doing buddy? Been a while huh?
Well the SOB sold it out from under me while I was fetching my parents from the airport. I was out of touch for 6 hours and he sold it to someone who came by cash in hand.
I'm angry as hell because we made a deal that I was going to come by today if he sent pictures. I wondered why I didnt get them.
Everything else around here thats half way decent or fixable is up in the $3K+ range. Don't wanna spend that on just a winter car. Having said that, I found a 99 V6 4X4 MANUAL which is very tempting. Still, its near $4K though.
