200k and Laundry list of items to fix

Well folks I'm about 3k away from 200k miles.

History behind my 1994 4runner V6

Picked it up for 1800 in 09 with 186 miles and the engine was not runnung very well. The prev. owner picked it up with a blown head. He had the head shaved and fixed but when it was put back together a vaccum hose was switch and so the engine problem was fixed once I figured that out. After a couple of bumps in the road it has been running great for the last two years. These are the quotes that I have gotten from varries places in town to do the work.

Engine Rebuild $3500 (Give or take) thought this little high due to the fact that the heads where just done. Runs a bit under power.

Tran. Rebuild. $2000 (Seems to have a problem driving first time in the morning only when shifting into the last gear.

Exhuast $600 ( Leaks from the Man. to the Cat. Thinking about replacing the Cat also)

Leaf Springs $350 (Back end is saging)

4x4 $800 (Does not work. Locks in but rear tire drags. Had someone look at it and he thinks that the rear end was changed out to a defferent gear then the front)

There are also so minor things like brakes, etc, etc.

If I am going to drop this kinda cash on this 4runner at this late in the game is it worth it.

Elec. the thing is awsome.

There is some rust on the body in a 3" spot around the wheel well. A dent or two two about 1-2" around.

I am assuming I should have the radator replaced, timing, and other belts. Is there anything else that should be done at 200k.

7k to 8k to get her running good.

I would spend the $7-8K on a newer 4Runner. Not worth it to dump anywhere near that much money into a 3VZE powered 4Runner with 200K on it. No way.

Why do want to rebuild the engine? If the transmission works fine when it warms up, why not drive it till it dies? I was going to go on and on with the questions but noticed that the 4WD doesn't work.

After re-reading through your post if it was mine I would drive it until it dies and then buy a nice 3rd gen 4Runner if you have $7-8K to spend or just buy a new truck now and don't dump any money into what will inevitably become a money pit.

yeah for real i mean i love saving runners and all for it but really step up to a 3.4l and run with a nicer ride or pick up an older one and build up a 22r or 22re and be straight axled. I had a 3 slow and it can be a great motor but the 3.4 just seemed better all around. OR the 3rz felt pretty good in the extended cab i got to drive. I realize not everyone is going to go drive their toyotas in the woods but ride and power goes to the next gen 4runner for sure u ask me but who invited me anyway lol

I'm right there with you. 197K on my '95. But I can't see investing a lot of $$ into it. Basic maintenance and repairs until something major craps out. But then, I have the luxury of another vehicle to fall back on.
