Question Customer feedback?

Do a search on YT for airbox silencer removal or deck plate mod. Drop a K&N filter in, tune it, tweek the timing, and upgrade the exhaust for starters. There isnt much IMO to do without tearing the engine apart and building it up into a beast. Those are the least expensive things I know to do for starters. hope I helped. Blue

Well there's not much you can do at all...the 3.0 is a gutless, but reliable engine.

I recommend you drive it until the engine won't go no more and then replace it with a 3.4 or a supra swap.

Good luck.

3.0 mods that are easiest:

2.5" mandrel bent exhaust w/ turbo muffler
clean out your throttle body
change all oils in car to synthetic
do the intake mods (drill holes in airbox) and silencer removal
give it a general tune-up, change fluids
increase ignition timing by 10* (listen for pinging, run premium gas)
That's pretty much it... use ECT if you have an auto, too. Oh, if you want you can also do the cold start fuel injector mod thingy and possibly bump up timing a bit more with no pinging...

Now your talkin! Prolly pricey but worth it I would assume. Or you can do like my buddy's got. his factory exhaust was altered to run off each manifold separatly instead of the pass side into the drivers side cutting flow. His runs down and taps in half way back or so. I would assume he has almost as much flow as a 3.0 with hedders. I am considering doing this when it warms up and gutting my cat or upgrading to a higher flow one.

2.5" exhuast is going to hurt you on the bottom end. You will lose some the low end torque that you're accustomed to. Your power range will be higher in the rpms. So unless you are always beating on your truck or if you have other motor mods to warrant more flow, I would stick with the 2.25" exhuast. Definitely go to a high-flow cat and a free flowing muffler (like magnaflow or dynomax).

If you increase you ignition timing by 10 degrees that should put you around 20 BTDC. That seems a little on the high side to me.

Check out this thread for intake on a 2nd gen. I added a couple pics at the bottom.

I'm going to put a 5.0 in and forever forget the 3.slow

(my 4runner tows a diesel air compressor, so it needs a little more grunt, and a little more brake to be completely confident pulling a trailer)

on the trail though the 3.0 is fine, 5.0 would be more fun tough
