1993 Toyota P/U 22RE GM Alternator Swap

Ok so I have read the posts about installing a GM alternator into a Toyota P/U and I bought a CS144 and it is way too big in size for a 22RE so it began my search for a good fitting alternator and I came across a good fit out of a 1994 Chevy Cavalier 2.2. Napa part number 213-4522F and connector number EC101 and V-pulley number 13065P. This alternator puts out 80 Amps at idle and 105 Amps at 1500 RPM. Only thing I had to do was Fab up a Alternator top bracket extension 6" over and 6" down in a "L" shape. I was able to use my stock V-belt but you will have to get the lower mount bolt half way through then put the belt on and finish pushing the lower mount bolt through and then shim with washers on the back side. Some people say to remove your Distributor and Power Steering Pump so you can remove the Alternator but if you don't have a timing light this is not a good idea it is better to drain the anti freeze out of the Radiator and pull the lower hose off the radiator this way the alternator comes right out of the bottom. Also remove the air intake tube so you can work a little easier from the top. The whole project took about 2 hours. I will post some pictures in a few days.

Thanks to FogRunner for the image

did you have to upgrade any of the factory wiring to handle the increased amperage?

Yes I ran bigger gauge wire and i will find the Napa part numbers I used and post it later today for you and I will post some pictures as well.

Red Positive Cable 60" Napa part #781163 QTY(2), Black Negative Cable 12" Napa part #781115 QTY(2), AMG Fuse Holder Napa part #782-1143 QTY(1), AMG 150 Amp fuse Napa part #782-1138 QTY(1).

I reconnected the stock wire off the battery feed off the back of the Alternator.

Upgrade the Big 3.
1) Run 1 red cable from positive battery feed off back of alternator to AMG 150 amp fuse holder and 1 red cable from fuse holder to positive battery terminal.
2) Run 1 black from alternator bracket to frame.
3) Run 1 black from negative battery post to frame or good body ground.

Also I put in a Interstate Battery #MTP78DT. This battery gives me a 1000 cranking amps and 800 cold cranking amps. I have used this battery for years in my vehicles and have never had a problem and living in Maine I have to plow a lot of snow and this battery is the bast I have ever used to keep up with my Fisher Eletro-Hydraulic plow.

picspicsPICS! Please! Especially of your bracket...installed is fine since you listed measurements.

Im really stoked about this mod...mine's a '91 bare bones 22re but I need oodles of aux. power for charging equipment on the road!

Thanks again!

gm altenator in my v6

im having a hell of a time getting this to work well the alt. fits in the stock bracket but it needs to be moved forward 1/4" and the bracket has to be made 6" longer to allow for adjustment my belt kept popping off every 10 miles so i have had a spacer machined and the stock bracket also spaced forward so it should hopefully align up better so as not to pop off but man does it work good !!! lights elect fan on the radiator radio , air compressor all working at idle nice !!!!
