96+ anthracite/dark grey 4runners

Ive found about 120 autos, and one manual all the way out in OH....was this mainly a Limited color? I want to say they were all 97+s too...what color is this? Was it special order on non-Limiteds (AKA autos) ...im lookin for 5spds

And whats the difference between grey and gray anyways?

Thanks guys,

Alex

Not sure if I can answer your question, but my '98 SR5 is Anthracite. It's a very deep gray. Kinda has a bronze tint to it in the sunlight. There are a few members here with this color, i'm sure they'll chime in. If you look in the 4Runner history section under 3rd Gens you can see the color charts.

I have a 98' Limited with the aforementioned Anthracite color. I've also heard it referred to as "Gunmetal". At first I was unsure about the color, but everyone compliments me on it. It definitely takes on different shades depending on the sunlight. If you're curious, Check my old post on Zaino to see a bunch of pics.

I think its without a doubt the coolest color ive ever seen, I like how in different light its darker or lighter, takes on a green or red hue, etc....its awesome, my first choice.

I just wish they made more of them in manual trans

Everyone selling one is asking about 2k over the NADA retail....craziness I tell you!

I swear ive seen that exact same 4runner before...hell Ive got pics of it sitting on my computer that look almost exactly the same with some small differences (a front lip and next gen grill)

Amen to that!!!!

I was also unsure of the color when i bought it, But EVERYONE compliments me on the color. It has REALLY grown on me. It looks great with dark windows, bug shield, window deflectors, etc... One of my (hopefully) future mods is color-matched bumpers.

How do I tell if the 96-98s im looking at have a factory locker? Im also trying to find out what kind of gears they have, but I figure it doesnt matter much anyways, eventually ill just upgrade them.

So far no luck in finding a manual anthracite any nearer to me than portland!

My 4Runner is also anthricite. You can see in my sig that its a 96' Limited. From what I understand at least for the 96's that the limited's were only available in an automatic. I'll post some pics 4 another example If I can figure out how.

Most all of the limiteds have the e-locker, but all limiteds are automatic. The e-locker was an available option on SR5. You will see a button to the right of the dash dimmer that says
RR
Diff
Lock

For the gears check the axle code and look at
This Site
I think if it had the P265's it'll be 4.56 but that may be only for the automatics.

I just got done with the whole car buying thing. I got kinda lucky and fell into a good deal on a nice truck. The best advice I can offer is be patient. The truck you want is out there somewhere.

Talking Hey!

Oh man, somebody stole my truck, drove it to Virginia, took pictures of it, then drove it back. What kind of world are we living in I'll post some of mine once it gets warm enough to wash it without the water freezing (20 degrees and dropping).

I've got anthracite and it does show dirt like crazy. Looks great anyway.

My understanding is that anthracite is the brown metallic body color and gunmetal is the gray bumper color.

here is a pic

I've got the locker, but also an automatic.

Good luck in your search.
