So, I think I'm over the whole "big tires and lots of lift" thing. after getting 13 or14 mpg's for the past couple of months with 33'' mud tires and stock gears, I think i'm going back to 30's or 31's. Did most 87 4runners 22re 5 speeds have around 28's I heard? I will be taking off my zuk coils and body lift and bringing them with me. THen i will buy a daily driver and turn my rig into a toy again and go with bigger tires and re gear I think

I'm going to be moving out to New Mexico, a 1200 mile drive in my rig, and I can barely hold 60 mph on the freeway without my life flashing before my eyes

What should I be looking for in a tire? At the most I'm thinking all terrains. What ever will get me the best MPG's on the way out there, then I will sell them towards bigger tires.

I just need this truck to get me out there and be a good commuter and daily driver for a couple months out there, then I will be back to tearin it up off highway again.

Any input and experience appreciated!

 

Do sOme research, you would be surprised at what a set of gears that put your rpm's back in the correct range will do for mileage.

lol. you got 4.88 inch tires?

I'm leaving in a month, not enough time for the break in period of the gears. I wouldn't want to put them in then jump on a long drive like that. I got the price for the gears, im looking at 500 w/setup Plus i can sell my 33's(5 of them) and the 5 mix and match old 31's(one is bfm mud, other a federal and couple different treads and actual sizes. I dont want to mix and match sizes on that kind of drive) and put them towards some newer "street tread" type 30's or 31's

 

plus if i am going to re gear, I want to go with 5.29's because I will eventually be running over 35's when I turn this back into a street legal trail rig.

 

P235/75/15s are a good size highway tire. 31x10.50x15 is a step up from those.
