20r4x4s 85 AND 86 4x4 TURBO custom cab Build.

Going to combine both my trucks in one thread. as progress will likely be very slow between school work and girlfreind.
Just picked up a new to me 86 Custom Cab with the 22ret.
5 speed tranny. Couple of issues are that the tranny is really sloppy i think it might be that plastic cup down in there. And also it seems like it has a bad IAC. When im driving down the road on the throttle and let off and push in the clutch it likes to die. Plans for this truck is to clean up the interior and possibly paint it.Then daily drive it and turn my 85 into a wheeler. I will also start a build thread for my 85.
PICS to come tommorow night hopefully. Once im done doing 63" chevy swap on my 85 i will probably sell this truck to fund for locker and hysteer for my 85.
Maybe ill get the bug to swap the motors and trannys and sell the custom cab with my 22re. and put the turbo motor and tranny in my 85

Sweet, custom cabs are cool, but not as cool as a fuel injected 85. scribed. Is the turbo really worth the trouble? I've got no comparison as ive never driven a 22ret

Turbo Custom Cab? Now you've caught my attention! I LOVE those things and the turbo makes it just that much better! Looking forward to the progress.

the turbo is awesome i really want to swap the motors.
I think im gonna sell the 86.
thats right. make me an offer.
ill try to get some pics on my phone and post em up at hotel when im in seattle so there wont be much of an update for next 2 days as i will be 200 miles away for FORD AAA competition.
The power difference is huge compared to my 85 with 22re with stock 4.10s turning 35s and honestly it pulls em ok but having the turbo and 4.88s on 31s is ALOT more power.
i wish torbo and intake would bolt right on my 85
heres the 85 before reverse in w56 went out. had a clunk before this finished it.

Well even a 22re with 4.88s makes a massive difference. Don't be fooled by gear ratios. Should swap rear 3rds and test the real power difference before considering an engine swap

My 81 22r felt like a power house pulling 31s with 4.88s

Sounds like you're in Washington state. Post up your location, if you are close (or even kinda closeish) ill make you an offer on that custom cab!

priced out 2 12" pieces of 3.5x3.5x1/4" square tube today for spring swap....$46. went down to get it and CDA metals has a shelf of stuff they sell at $.50 a lb and there was a piece 27" long but only 3/16ths thick. Picked that up for less than 10 bucks. Still have to go pull some springs. but in meantime im gonna fab up my front hangers so keep eyes out for what i make.
