2ed gen Tailgate issues, Help!

Hello all,

once again I throw myself to the mercy of the yotatech forum. I call upon your wisdom. So I ran into a poll and severly dented my tail gate. I know i know, im a dumb ass and I accept all jeering that it to follow. But I would just like some advice on if you think this can be banged out with or if I should go in search for a new tailgate? Now the window will not roll all the way down also.

I have found a tailgate on craigslist for $50 but it does not have the glass in it, and it is blue, not that I care to much about color at this point, but maybe someone has a red one they are looking to sell? Anyhow, how hard would it be to take the glass and motor from my tailgate and put it into the new one. Are there any past threads on how to do this.

Past threads...dunno. But it's not too hard to remove the glass. Seeing the damage, I'd just go ahead and replace that one. The one that is for sale, does it have the motor?

What you will need to do is open the inside of the tailgate and unplug the safety switch that keeps you from moving the window with the tailgate down. Also un-hook the lock mechanism that doesn't allow the tailgate to unlock until the window is down. Once that's done, open the gate and support the weight of the window on something as you undo the tracks. With the window out, you should be able to fanagle the motor out to put into the new gate. good luck.

X2 on wii tarded's input. I think unless your a real good body guy and have the time to spend on that gate, just get the blue one and get it painted later down the road. $50 is a good price for a tailgate. Up here, a new unpainted shell will cost you $900 plus.

This may save you some time.. at least in the first gen tailgate wiring, you don't have to disconnect the safety switch to lower your window. Just use a screw driver to close the 2 side latches.. this tricks the relay into thinking the tailgate is closed and you can freely move the window.. !!!!The glass needs to be supported!!!!! if you don't support the glass it may fall out, or break, or damage the linkage..

Sucks about the tailgate, it is otherwise very clean.. backing into something has been mybiggest concern since I took off my horribly bent/rusted factory bumper..
