90 pickup installed sr5 cluster.. no oil pressure?

like it says.. i have a 90 pu 4wd with 22re. i did the sr5 cluster swap to get a tach and oil pressure gauge and the tach doesn't seem to be correct but the oil pressure always reads 0.. i installed the sr5 sensor for the gauge and not the light.. i did run it for a whlie with the wrong sensor just the one for the dummy light could this have ruined the gauge? or what are the other possibilities it could be for it not to work? any one else ever had this problem? any info is greatly apprciated

Well I just did an SR5 cluster swap in my 87 the other day. I have a 22R. MY oil pressure gauge doesnt work either but I havent gotten the SR5 sending unit yet. I dont imagine that having the dummy light hooked up to it would matter....but just incase im going to go unplug mine after im done here lol As for the Tach I couldnt just plug and play. I had to run a wire from the coil to the back of the cluster. On my cluster there are 3 sets of screws all in a row about in the middle closer to the passenger side. One says "P" the middle says "IGN" and the last one is blank I think. I hooked the coil wire to the "P" screw and it works awesome. But idk how different the clusters for 2nd and 3rd gen are.

Hope this helps.

Also search for SR5 swap threads on here....thats how I leaned to do mine.

Running the dummy light sensor with the oil pressure gauge from what I have heard ruins the gauge, I am not positive on this as when I did my cluster swap I unplugged the sensor first so I wouldn't have to worry about it. But that's what it sounds like, sorry.

Yeah, if you used the non-SR5 sender with your new gauges then the SR5 oil pressure gauge is most likely fried now.

running the dummy light with the sr5 cluster will burn up the guage itself like stated above. This is because the dummy light provides constant power to the gauge to "turn the light on" where as the sr5 oil sender provides variable power so you get a reading not just on or off.

Xalier-if you have installed your cluster and hooked everything up and you have not reading, I would assume you have fried the gauge. You can see if you can find just the gauge but you can prob get a new cluster cheaper.

The oil pressure, dummy or idiot light is controlled by an oil pressure switch. It's either on or off. The oil pressure gauge is controlled by an oil pressure sender. It's resistance varies as the oil pressure in the engine varies. The variable resistance changes how much current flows to ground (-). When you hooked up the gauge and turned on the key, you subjected the gauge to a dead short and because the tiny winding in the gauge will burn out before the fuse blows...It's fried!!
Both of you would have saved yourself some money if you had researched this beforehand. There are many write ups on how to do this and most I've read state that the oil pressure switch has to be changed to an oil pressure sender.
I doubt if any one will sell you a gauge out of a cluster, you will probably have to buy another complete cluster.
