Question 1991 Auto Tranny Not Shifting into OD unless restarted

Hi Everyone! I just bought my first toyota truck and am in love already Anyway, found out that it does not shift into OD, unless I warm up the truck, then turn it off then back on. Then it will shift all day long into OD. Seems to me that it is a sensor that isn't checking the temature constantly. It's only checking when the truck starts. That being the reason it starts to work when I turn the truck off then back on. Hope this makes sence and I appreciate any help. I am going to try n fix it myself :jessica: !
I searched for the problem on the forums, but after hour or so of searching found no posts that had a definate answer. So I appoligize if this is already up here somewhere.

Hmm, interesting. I have no clue, but if it were me I would unplug all of the wiring connections to the tranny and plug them back in making sure they snap back in, hoping to reset a bad connection. I think on mine there are 3 connectors. At least it wouldn't cost anything if it worked. Good luck!

below is a link to the repair manual for the trans. i know that these transmissions are controlled by the temp of the engine and if not warmed up it wont shift into overdrive, not sure on what sensor it is that tells it that it is warm enough but u should be able to find it in there. also down load the fsm and keep a copy on your computer its helps. and hope u enjoy your toy....

k am gonna go unplug everything and take a look at the wiring harness to see if it has any bad looking wires, then go from there. Yeah I probably want to start with the simple things first =) Then look at the manual and start tearin stuff apart Will let you know what I find, because I am sure I am not the first or the last to have this problem. Thank you so much for your quick reply's! I appreciate it. I feel obsessed already!
