Have any of you heard about a recall on the head gaskets for the 3.4 V-6? My wife works with a woman who has a 96 Taco with the V-6 and said she got a recall notice and it's at the local dealer now to be fixed. Being the owner of a 3.slow and knowing all of the head gasket issues it had, I thought for sure Toyota had the whole issue figured out before they introduced the Taco. I'll try to find out more details from that lady, but let me know if you've heard anything.

The answer is yes, it is a very well known problem.

Mine will be getting a recall on the headgasket and the rear springs so I'm gonna get my Bils installed with the springs so that won't cost me a thing and I'm also doing the water pump,T belt and anything else that will help cut the labor down on these extra parts to be done.

 

Search is disabled, just one quick Q, I've never heard of this. What years did did the recall affect?

 

Just going from memory it was the 96 & maybe 97 3.4L engines. The HGs leak to the outside of the block where you can see it, not to the inside of the cylinder like the 3.0L.

 

Early 97's. I called Toyota and they told me that since mine is a late-production 97 it isn't part of the recall.
